Noushin Emami

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK

Assoc. Prof. Dr. S. Noushin Emami is a Reader/Group Leader at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the Karolinska Institute, internationally recognised for pioneering research in infection biology, vector ethology, and host–pathogen–vector interactions. Her interdisciplinary work bridges molecular neurobiology, secondary metabolites, and vector-borne disease control, advancing global understanding of host–pathogen bio-communication and transmission biology. Her research has revealed how malaria parasites and other pathogens manipulate vector behaviour through metabolites and pheromones, uncovering novel mechanisms for vector control. Published in Science, Nature Ecology & Evolution, and Communications Biology, her discoveries include identifying biomolecules linked to Plasmodium metabolism, characterising mosquito semiochemicals, and developing the innovative “pink feeding/killing cocktail.” As co-founder of Molecular Attraction AB, Prof. Emami translates discovery into disease-prevention tools. Her achievements have earned international acclaim, including the Brilliant Minds Gold Medal, IVA 100 Innovators, and the Flormanska Prize from the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences.
